[It figures. Well, really, he can't complain. Isaak leans over the table, running a finger down the list as he translates.]

[He listens intently and, after requesting toast and apples (with a polite please and thank you), sits back to inspect his benefactor.]

I do, actually, [he says, which is saying something. Isaak has lived a great many places and visited a great many more. His preferences are well-established and well-considered.

He interrupts himself out of necessity to order-- fixing the waiter with a look that dares hm to say anything about the situation-- before turning his attention back to the boy.]

Have you ever been there?

No, but I would like to go! I want to see the Vernadsky Library, especially. Do you go there?

[A faint smile tugs at the edge of his mouth.]

I've never had much call to go.

You should! Vernadsky has more actual paper books than almost anywhere else! I think that it must be impressive to see.

Yes, I do! Or I think that I do. I have family in the Ukraine, and maybe in Kiev. I haven't been to visit them.
